GUM OUT IN THE WORLD

Remember when going out into the world was down to a simple decision of whether you could be bothered to change out of your pajamas or not? Ah those golden days… We can now reminiscence about such simpler times with the psychedelic pop song ‘Out In The World’, from Tame Impala and POND’s very own Jay Watson. Performing under his solo pseudonym GUM, Watson has entirely played, recorded and mixed this eclectic single. It has the sounds of summer-love-gone-wrong, with layers of vintage globalist guitars, Watson’s grumbling vocals and a saxophone cameo Christian Ruggiero (Koi Child). Shedding light on his new track, the musician says, “Out In the World is about wanting to give up and never talk to anyone ever again after something goes wrong. Some people have that feeling all the time - it’s crippling and isolating,” says Watson of the single.  “It sounds like light coming through half-shut blinds. It’s not possible for all, but for me, I force myself to go out again, or get on stage, or do whatever it is I have to do to keep moving on.” The woozy track is accompanied by equally hazy visuals from Canadian filmmaker Laura-Lynn Petrick, who captures the solitary atmosphere of ‘Out In The World’ through a series of dreamy panoramic scenes. - Hannah Thacker
